Description
Dragos Burghiue's Touch of the Sea contains seascape paintings with a robust level of texture. The exhibit contains a series of seascapes featuring different weather patterns and a sailing vessel riding the sea. The vessel gives the viewer a platform for perspective, so that they can be anchored into the scene itself. In choosing these sailing seascapes as subject matter, Burghiue highlights the dichotomy of the ruthless power of the sea with the human endeavor to make use of its benefits. It also serves as a reminder of past times where sailing was a prominent form of transportation.
To add another level to the experience, Burghiue asks viewers not only to look, but also to touch the paintings themselves, and feel their textured surfaces. "When I paint, touch is at the forefront of all my themes. I believe that by touching my paintings the viewer will not only connect with the subject matter on a deeper level, but also innately be reminded of the importance of touch and hopefully will seek activities sans digital media."
