Roger Smith Repairs Bricks on Detroit Street, October 1984 Photographer: Robert Chase
Year:

Published In:

Caption:
SAVING THE BRICKS - Brick mason Roger Smith uses patience and skill to fit old street brick back into the surface of North Fourth Avenue near the Farmer's Market. Smith, of Margolis Nursery in Ypsilanti, is working on the Downtown Development Authority's pedestrian improvement project. The work will widen the sidewalk area on Fourth Avenue, add drop off spaces in front of the Farmer's Market, install benches and special light fixtures and make Detroit Street one-way north in the block opposite the Farmer's Market which will result in added parking spaces. The project, which began last week, is scheduled to be done in about 45 days, before the wintry weather takes over. The bricks which Smith is refitting were removed from the street so that new curbs could be built.
