Mrs. Mary D. Mitchell, 88, former teacher, principal and superintendent of the old Pittsfield School District No. 9, stands before a portrait of herself presented last night to the elementary school named for her at 3550 Pittsview Drive. The portrait was painted by local artist Jon Lockard and was presented by the Mitchell Parent-Teacher Organization to the school during an open house held last night to honor Mrs. Mitchell. Yesterday was Mary D. Mitchell Day at the school. The veteran educator retired in 1949 after 30 years in the teaching profession.
