Brazilian Students Strum Tunes Of Home Odair (left) and Sergio Assad, brothers from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, give a classical guitar concert to a Pioneer High School music appreciation class. The youths are in Ann Arbor on a six-month scholarship from Youth For Understanding. Sergio, 16, is attending Pioneer High. Odair, 12, is a student at Slauson Junior High. The brothers study in Brazil under a teacher named Monina Tavora who is a former pupil of famed Spanish classical guitarist Segovia. The boys, who are living with Ann Arbor families, came to the city last month. They will return to Brazil this summer. Robert Pratt, chairman of the Pioneer High music department, says he plans to ask the talented youths to give other classical guitar demonstrations to Pioneer music classes.
