HOOVER STRIKE AVERTED: Members of Local 38, UAW-CIO voted 214 to 150 yesterday afternoon to accept a five-cent across-the-board wage offer from the Hoover Ball and Bearing Col, averting a possible strike. Union officers Thomas E. Applegate, Ken R. Sisson, and Herbert Hetchler (left to right) tallied the ballot result on a blackboard in union headquarters, 208 W. Washington St.

Washington St., who has been a member of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers' Union for 50 years, was honored last night by Local 14 of the union for his long membership. He is shown receiving the local's gift of a traveling bag, presented by Thomas Spilling, president of the local. Mackey also received a 50-year membership card in a leather case at the ceremony, held in the AFL Labor Hall.
