PINGEL CARRIES BALL AT ARMS LENGTH: Johnny Pingel, great Michigan State back, seems to lug a football carelessly, but he uses his arms to balance himself on quick cutes and seems to get away with it, as he did Saturday in this 15-yard gain against Syracuse. Pingel made two touchdowns and passed to Nelson for the third score to defeat Syracus 19-12.

SPARTANS WILL MISS HIM: Ron Alling, veteran Spartan center, won't be able to play against Michigan Saturday. He suffered an injury in the Wayne game which will keep him on the sidelines for two or three weeks. He has been one of the stalwarts of that strong Michigan State line and the Spartans are certain to be weakened with Ron on the sidelines. Bill Batchelor, who failed to win a letter last year as a sophomore, will be at the important pivot post here Saturday.
