SUPER SERVICE ON THE HOME FRONT: Shown above are six of the women volunteers from Ann Arbor churches who answered a call to duty as auxiliary waitresses and dishwashers when it was issued this week by the local Civilian Defense Volunteer Office, which is co-operating with the canteen committee of the Red Cross to provide a steady stream of special kitchen help at the University East Quadrangle. An influx of 500 more Army students at the quadrangle brought dining matters to a head - specifically Margaret A. MacLaughlin, head quadrangle dietician, who sought volunteer help. Women from each of the seven Ann Arbor churches stepped into the rush job for one day a week each. Pictured above are volunteers from the First Presbyterian church (from left to right): Mrs. Robert Allured, Miss May Goodrich, Miss Ellen Bach, Mrs. Leslie French, Mrs. Ralph Pence, and Mrs. Edward Bliska.
