Sharing Hanukkah's Warmth: Jewish residents across the city will light the first candle tonight marking the opening of the eight-day holiday of Hanukkah, which commemorates the right to religious freedom. And four-year-olds who attend Beth Israel Nursery School and Friendship International Nursery will be able to understand the warmth and fun of the season better as a result of a special party held at Beth Israel on Monday. In the photo at left, Andrea Miller and Mimi Simon, both of Friendship International, hear Beth Israel Teacher Amy Cooperstein explain about the Hanukkah Menorah which holds a candle for each day of the holiday and an extra candle that is lighted every day.
