From the Director First, my thanks to Ann Arbor Civic Theatre for the chance to direct such a LARGE cast of talented people. Second, I have seen Stage Door twice, but never the movie version of it. For those of you who have seen the classic film adaptation of this classic Broadway hit, this show may be a little bit surprising for you, as fast forwarding through a copy of the film was for me! There are still several familiar characters, but this play has an edge, a bias against Hollywood, and sexy dialogue that they could never put on film in those days. I have at times told my cast that this one of the original wise cracking "Drama-dies': paving the way for those that have now become so familiar on television. I hope you will forgive us for not changing the name of some famous actors that occur in the show, even though they are not that familiar anymore they did define the golden age of Broadway. One part Valentine to the stage and actors that inhabit it, one part satiric comedy, and one part morality play, Stage Door has something for every audience member, except having the "calla lilys in bloom:' We hope you enjoy tonight's production.
