Mrs. Teressa E. Lazell, who made her home in Ann Arbor and Washington, D. C., for many years, died yesterday in Washington, according to word received today by Ray A. Dolph from her son-in-law, D. W. Springer.
Formerly Teressa Elizabeth Gillette, Mrs. Lazell was the daughter of Amos and Harriet Gillette, and was born May 2, 1847, in Freedom township. Her mother died when she was two years old and she was brought up by her grandmother, Mrs. Caroline Sanford of Bridgewater, who moved shortly to Manchester.
In 1863, she was married to Joseph M. Lazell of Bridgewater and five years later he established a farm implement store which he conducted until his death in 1891. Mrs. Lazell then moved to Ypsilanti, where her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Springer, then were living.
Mrs. Lazell and Mr. and Mrs. Springer moved to Ann Arbor since 1893 and had lived here since, although most of the time since 1926 has been spent in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Lazell suffered a stroke Oct. 1, while at the Michigan League building and was a patient in University hospital for 10 weeks, later going to Washington with Mr. and Mrs. Springer.
Mrs. Lazell early joined the Baptist church but for about 50 years had been a member of the Methodist church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Monday afternoon at Gawlers funeral home in Washington D. C. The Springer home is at 3000 Tilden Ave., Washington.
