Bob Ufer Fails In NCAA 440 Trials
Bob Ufer, Michigan’s quarter-miler, failed to qualify in the NCAA 440 trials yesterday, despite the fact he was in the slowest heat. Arky Erwin of Louisiana State won the heat in 49.1. Ufer was third in this heat going around the turn but lacked staying power and finished sixth.
Michigan's only other entry, Dave Matthews, was to compete in the half-mile today. No trials were held in this event yesterday.
