New University Radio Tower
This 400 feet high radio tower at Peach Mountain (Portage Lake in the background) is being erected by the University for its new frequency modulation station WUOM. Some 18 miles northwest of Ann Arbor, the tower probably will be completed within a week. An estimated 5,000,000 persons are expected to be within range of the station when it begins operations early in 1948. a 40-feet radiator will be placed on top of the tower, bringing the overall height to 440 feet.
