lOr. Beckett :Will Manage VA Institution • Appointee Formerly Was Assistant Head Of University Hospital Dr. Morley B. Beckett, former assistant director .of University Hospital here, has been appointed manager of the Veterans Administration Hospital now nearing completion at the northeast edge of the city. For the past three years Dr. Beck~tt has been manager of the VA Hospital in Saginaw. The effective date of Dr. Beckett's new appointment will be announced later. Construction of the $7,321,000 VA facility is expected to be completed in July after a series of delays. Served U-i\I ln 1946-4 7 Dr. Beckett was named assistant to Dr. A. C. Kerlikowske at University Hospital in April, 1946, and resigned the following year to take a post as superintendent of Royal Jubilee Hospital on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. He served in that post until his appointment to the Saginaw hospital in 1950. Prior to his 1946 appointment as assistant director of University Hospital, Dr. Beckett served with the Army ali a hosp'tal executive in charge of preventive medicine and public health for air bases in Cen• tral America and the West Indies. He was discharged in the rank o! lieutenant colonel in 1946. Worked For State Dr. Beckett, 51, is a graduate of the University of Toronto Medical School. He was director of the bu· reau of rural health administra• tion for the Michigan State Health Department from 19.33 to 1935 and became director of W. H. Kellogg Foundation activities in Allegan county in the latter year. He re, mained in that post until he entered service in 1942. In recommending Dr. Beckett for the managership of the 500- ed Ann Arbor hospital, VA spokesen said heis "widely acquainted with both professional and non')) rofessional leaders throughout )vlichigan."
