Ample Closet Space Does Away With Need For Full Basement
"I wouldn't part with this house for $40,000.”
This statement, made by Mrs. Ada C. Barker, typifies her feelings toward her new home at 1490 Cedar Bend Dr.
The house is designed to meet today's needs — easy upkeep and modern appliances. It is spacious without being massive, yet compact without being box-like.
Three-Bedroom Home
The home, built by Wendell O. Edwards, consists of living room, three bedrooms, kitchen and bath. While there is no basement, a partial attic, reached by a disappearing stairway, and plenty of closet space and shelves handle all surplus goods.
Perhaps the most interesting room is the kitchen. Featured here are open wood cupboards and pressed-wood walls, which also prevail in the living room and spare bedroom.
Another quality of the kitchen Is excellent lighting achieved by several large overhead globes and neon lights over a counter which is used for dining.
Two Kinds Of Walls
The living room is a mixture of pressed wood and plastered walls. Off one side of the living room are two doors, one leading to the kitchen, and the other to a hall off which are the bedrooms and bath.
Between these doors, are built-out open shelves for books and family momentoes. The floor of the living room, as throughout the home, is concrete.
Breezeway For Living
A closed breezeway provides more living area. This is fitted with jalousie windows.
Mrs. Barker's son, Morse, did much of the finishing, which included the laying of a brick patio outside the front door.
Situated amid more than two dozen apple trees on about an acre of land, the house has a pleasant view from all sections.
This apple orchard provides an ideal setting for the home of Mrs. Ada C. Barker, 1490 Cedar Bend Dr. Open wood cupboards are a prominent feature of the kitchen (below). The exit to the rear leads to the living room. Note the accordion door.
