Contest Proposed
To Get Sketches
For New City Flag

City Planning Department Director Ray C. Eastman was asked by the City Council last
night to report on the feasi-
bility of submitting sketches for
an official city flag for coun-
cil consideration.

The council action, stemming
from a proposal by Councilman
Alicia Dwyer, included requests
that the city seal be incor-
porated in a design, if possible,
and that colors be recommend-
ed.

Also slated to go to Eastman
for study is the proposal that
competition, possibly among
school children, on develop-
ment of designs might be
worked out.

The original proposal that
Eastman be asked to submit
sketches to the council was
changed, at the suggestion of
Councilman Charles W. Joiner
and with Miss Dwyer's consent,
to the approved motion of ask-
ing him to report on feasibility
of preparing sketches.
