Mrs. Jennie Morton Of Well-Known City Family, Dies At 96
Mrs. Jennie M. Morton, 96, of 1531 Packard St., one of Ann Arbor's oldest residents, died last night in the Whitehall Nursing Home near Farmington after a long illness.
She was born here Sept. 5, 1862, the daughter of John and May Ann Keedle Shadford. Mrs. Morton and her husband, William H. Morton, at one time owned much of the property in the vicinity of Shadford Rd. and Morton Ave. The two city streets were named after them. Mr. Morton died April 29, 1937.
Mrs. Morton was a member of the First Methodist Church of Ann Arbor and the Maccabees. Her son, William S. Morton, died on Oct. 20, 1956.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Mayne of Lakeland, Mich.; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Muehlig Chapel with the Rev. L. Burlin Main officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
