St. Luke's Service Guild Plans Bazaar
YPSILANTI—St. Luke’s Service Guild, a group of young mothers, members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Churchwomen, have taken on the project of making Advent wreaths to be used for family services in the home.
The symbolisms of the Advent wreath are described as follows. The round shape represents the circle of eternity—God was, is, and ever shall be. The evergreens are the symbol of the life immortal which comes through Jesus Christ.
The candles represent the four weeks of Advent, their light being the symbol of Christ the coming “Light of the World.” The ribbons are purple, the Advent color.
A printed leaflet, “An Advent Family Service,” will be given with each of the wreaths. First Sunday in Advent is Nov. 27.
There are slight variations in the Advent wreaths. They can be made to order. For this special service call Mrs. Charles Stokes, HU 2-0380; Mrs. Jack Wiltse, HU 3-1878; or Mrs. Thomas Abercrombie, HU 2-1684.
Wreaths also will be available at the Fall Festival and Bazaar at St. Luke’s Parish House next Friday.
The Service Guild, organized a few months ago, has taken on odd jobs in relation to the work of the church and to assist the rector of the parish, the Rev. Sidney S. Rood.
Mrs. William L. White, 1150 Jay St., provided the momentum for the organization last summer. Mrs. Charles Stokes, 1210 Red Leaf Lane, is chairman. There are 28 members in the group.
