Church Building May Become School

Thursday July 6, 1961

YPSILANTI—A church building now under construction for St. Ursula’s Catholic parish in Ypsilanti township and scheduled for completion Sept. 23 may eventually become a school annex, the Rev. Mitchell J. Bednarski, pastor of the church, said today.

The building, located at the southeast corner of Harris Rd. and Foley Ave., has been designed to serve as a temporary church and can be converted to a three-room annex if and when long-range plans for a parochial school and a permanent church 40ce materialize, Fr. Bednarski said.

The 108 x 42-foot, one-story structure, situated on an 8 1/2-acre site, is being built and furnished at a total cost of $62,000. Also under construction is a rectory on a parish-owned lot adjacent to the church site and facing Foley Ave.

St. Ursula’s parish was organized 13 months ago. For the first 10 weeks after its organization, church services were held in the Ypsilanti Township Hall, and since Aug. 21 services have been conducted at the Willow Run School District’s Kettering School.

PARISH TO GET CHURCH: This is an architect’s sketch of the building which will serve Ypsilanti township’s St. Ursula Catholic parish as a temporary church. The $62,000 structure is located at the southeast corner of S. Harris Rd. and Foley Ave. It can be converted to a three-room school annex at some future time to fit in with long-range plans for a parochial school and permanent church edifice.
