Grover Colby, Sr.
YPSILANTI - Grover Colby, sr., 76, of 5345 Bemus Rd., Ypsilanti township, retired farmer and life-long resident of the Ypsilanti area, died this morning at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor.
Mr. Colby was born Sept. 6, 1885, in Shiawassee county, son of Henry and Orvilla Drake Colby. Mr. Colby married Claribel Glass on Nov. 1, 1910, in Cherry Hill, Mich.
Mr. Colby was a member of the Stony Creek Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Ancient Order of the Gleaners and the Southwest Centennial Farm Bureau Group.
Surviving besides his wife is a son, Grover Colby, jr., of Dexter; five daughters, Mrs. Orval (Doris) Throne of Ypsilanti, Mrs. George (Lucile) Nelson of New Haven, Mich., Mrs. Robert (Orvilla) Somers of Kalamazoo, Mrs. Frank (Esther) Bongiovanni, jr., and Mrs. Sam (Bessie) Bongiovanni, both of Northville; a sister, Mrs. Amy Tabor of Hazlett, Mich.; 20 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stevens and Bush Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Frayer officiating. Burial will be in the Stony Creek Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Stony Creek Methodist Church Building Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today.
