Youths To "Speak Out" On Race Issue
Youths To ‘Speak Out’ On Race Issue
A teen-agers “Speak out” on problems and issues important to Negro-white relations in Ann Arbor will be held Thursday, at the Ann Arbor Community Center, 625 N. Main.
The unique session, from 1 - 4 p.m., is sponsored by the Community Center Teen Council.
The goal of the meeting, according to Margaret Abelman, program director of the Community Center, is to create a “dialogue” among local young people and adults on important issues in the areas of recreational facilities, law enforcement, schools and job opportunities.
Representatives of the Ann Arbor Board of Education, Police Department, city government, Chamber of Commerce and Recreation Department have been invited to attend next week’s meeting.
Another session is scheduled for May 4, when it is hoped that the adult representatives will present some definitive responses to the teenagers’ questions.
Four committees will detail specific concerns next week in the areas of recreation, police relations, schools and employment.
Area teenagers who would like to attend next week’s session or who would like more information on the subject, may contact Miss Abelman at the Community Center (662-3128).
Making Plans
Making final plans for next Thursday’s “Speak Out” session are eight members of the Ann Arbor Community Center Teen Council. The Teen Council is sponsoring the meeting.
