Area Residents Make Resolutions For 1969
Perhaps the only things going around faster than the flu, and yet more temporary, are New Year’s resolutions. And the variety of resolves is about as wide as the variety of flu.
Some of the people questioned in downtown Ann Arbor kept their resolutions on a practical basis, such as Linda Sanders of 602 W. Michigan, Ypsilanti, who resolved to “save some money next year.”
Thurmond Kirkland of 1105 Minor said, “I participate in athletics and next year I would like to broad jump 24 feet.”
Perhaps the most common resolution was to keep dwellings cleaner, as was voiced by Maxine Gibson of 2720 Cranbrook and Jay McCauley of 919 S. Division.
Sue Dute of 455 Hilldale Dr. was hard pressed to think of a resolution until her mother, Mrs. John C. Dute, said, “She should resolve to clean out her closet."
Chip Roberts of 1512 Marian was less specific in his resolve "to have a better year than this year and not get mixed up in anything I can’t handle.”
And talking like a man who had just slid into town, John Max, 1813 Valleygreen Lane, said he would “be more careful on this ice.”
A number of people were, however, still filled with the holiday feeling, such as Vivian Taliver of Detroit, who said “Instead of being a hard-hearted Hannah I’m going to try to be nicer to people.”
Lavern Glaze, 1004 Minor St., said, “I would like to see peace on earth and good will all over the world.”
Susan Wolf, 1570 Maywood, on the other hand, would be satisfied for just a small change at home. “I’m a German major at the University,” she said, “and I would like to speak more German with my family at home."
Fedle Grammatico, 1547 Miller, said he had no resolutions but said, "I just hope people will be satisfied with what they have in 1969 and count their blessings.”
And finally, we know of at least one resolution that has already been broken. Robert Hejna, 1115 Ferdon Rd., said, “I’m making a New Year’s resolution not to make any New Year’s resolutions.”
