Eunice Yost, Ex-Grid Great's Widow, Dies
Funeral services were being arranged today for Mrs. Eunice Yost, the widow of one of the University of Michigan's greatest head football coaches. Mrs. Yost, of 611 Stratford Rd., died this morning at the Huronview Nursing Home. As the wife of Fielding H. Yost during one of the most successful football eras in the history of the sport, Mrs. Yost shared in the excitement of the "point-a-minute" teams which Yost produced over a 24-year period. His first year as head coach in 1901 the Michigan team defeated Stanford in the first Rose Bowl game, 49 to 0. After Yost died almost 30 years ago, Mrs. Yost continued an active interest in Michigan athletics, attending luncheons held by the wives of coaches and receiving visitors to her east side home regularly. A life-long gardener, Mrs. Yost was long active in the Women's National Farm and Garden Association. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Muehlig Chapel.
