Roger Marcus and Janet Smarr perform next Sunday.

Recital will feature vocals, lute and guitar works

Janet Smarr. soprano, and Roger Marcus, lute and guitar, will present a recital of works ranging from the 16th through the 20th centuries on Sunday. Jan. 30 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church 306 N. Division

A $3 donation ($2 for senior citizens) is requested for the 4 pm performance. Refreshments will be available at intermission.

The recital will include songs by John Dowland and Henry VHI, and anonymous Sephardic folk songs, as well as lute and guitar solos by Luis Milan. Alonso Mudarra. Re-gino Seinz de la Maza, and F. Mor-eno-Torroba. Featured will be two song cycles, “Six Songs from the Chinese” by Benjamin Britten and "Four French Folk Songs” by Ma-tyas Seiber.

SMARR IS A graduate of the

University of Michigan School of Music. She holds cantorial and choir director positions at several synagogues and churches. An experienced renaissance wind player she teaches recorder privately and for the Ann Arbor Public

Roger Marcus is a graduate of Californian Institute of Arts, where i he majored in classical guitar. He performs with several early music groups and teaches guitar privately-

The duo has been free lancing together since 1979. Their repetoire includes renaissance, baroque and contemporary music, in addition to a wide range of Jewish folk music and popular styles. They appear annually at the Ann Arbor Medieval Festival and performed last fall at the Ann Arbor Ethnic Fair.
