Potters' sale coming this weekend

Thirty craftsmen will participate in the Potters’ Guild Annual Spring Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5. The sale will be held outdoors in front of the guild studio at 201 Hill St.

Guild spokesmen describe the organization as a cosmopolitan nonprofit assemblage of potters, with its members varying in age, regional and ethnic heritage and educational background. This cultural diversity, the guild states, contributes to the variety of pots made at the guild.

Stoneware, porcelain, earthenware and rakue clay bodies are the basis for forms, the guild says, “that vary from the traditional to the contemporary, from the functional to the non-functional, from earthy and natural to refined and polished, from miniscule to the heroic, from the quietly monochromatic to the vibrantly colored."

Of seasonal interest, the guild suggests, may be the use of ceramics to enhance outdoor living spaces. Clay merges successfully with plantings as garden and yard sculpture, the guild says.

Getting ready for the Potters' Guild spring sale are Gail Jones, left, and Roann Ogawa.
