Q&A

Q. Whatever happened to the proposed senior citizen housing development at North Maple Road and Sequoia Parkway? The groundbreaking was scheduled for the fall of 1993, but there are still no signs of activity there. What’s the story?

A. Tim Wintermute, a U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) project consultant, says the groundbreaking for the 2!/2-story, $3.4 million “Sequoia Place” complex is scheduled for June or July, with a planned completion date in the spring of 1995. Wintermute says the building will be open to persons 62 years of age or older with residents required to pay no more than 30 percent of the rental charge; the government picks up the remainder. He said the complex will conform to federal and state fair housing laws regarding nondiscrimination with respect to race, creed, color, religion or national origin.
