Calhoun, Taylor Elizabeth-Blair

Taylor Elizabeth-Blair Calhoun, 16, beloved daughter of Gary and Judith Grovenberg Calhoun and sister to Jason, died Tuesday, September 12, 1995 as the result of an automobile accident. Taylor was bom in Ann Arbor on July 9,1979, and was a junior at Huron High School. In addition to serving as class president, Taylor was an honor roll student and a three-year member of the varsity tennis team. She had been a cheerleader, peer counselor, and a volunteer algebra tutor. Taylor also served on the student council and played varsity soccer her freshman and sophomore years. She was elected to the Homecoming Court and Coming Home Court the same years. Taylor was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she participated in many activities, including Feed the Homeless program and a mission trip to help Iowa flood victims in the summer of 1993. Taylor had also been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for three years and had worked on the 1994 Lynn Rivers Congressional campaign. In addition to her parents and brother, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Dennis and Doris Grovenburg of Grinnell, Iowa; paternal grandfather, John W. Calhoun of Escondido, California; maternal great aunt, Roberta Oltrogge of Grinnell, Iowa; four maternal aunts, Cathy Grovenburg of Ann Arbor, Marilyn (Colan) Arnold of Des Moines, Iowa, Terri (Clay) Pritchard of Marion, Iowa, and Nancy (Bill) Tinkle of Grinnell, Iowa; paternal aunt, Mary Jane (Donald) Bullington of Des Moines, Iowa; and five cousins, Justin Arnold, Joshua and Jordan Tinkle, and Lori Hale and Robin Burt; countless friends and her dog, Lexie. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Calhoun and her uncle, Michael D. Grovenburg. Her loss is immeasurable, her life is an example to us all. In lieu of flowers, her family requests gifts be made to the Taylor E.B. Calhoun Memorial Fund in care of Dr. Thomas Mueller, Jr., Class Principal, Huron High School, 2727 Fuller Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105-2499. Visitation will be Monday, September 18 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Muehlig Chapel; the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. The memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 20 at First Presbyterian Church.
