Events highlight National Library Week

National Library Weekbegins Sunday. Each year, one week is set aside to celebrate the contributions libraries make to our communities. During this week, the Ypsilanti District Library encourages the public to come to the library to see what it has to offer.

On Saturday, Ming the Magnificent will be presenting a program of magic at the downtown branch of the library at 2 p.m. in preparation for National Library Week. Ming is a Detroit librarian and magician. The performance is free and open to the public.

Barnes and Noble Booksellers on Washtenaw Avenue is having a fund-raising weekend this Saturday and Sunday to help the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor libraries. A percentage of the profits from sales will be dedicated to the purchase of new materials for the library.

The downtown branch will remain open until 10:30 p.m. Monday to hand out tax forms. The copy machine will also be available at 10 cents per page. No other part of the library will be open for service this late.

Next week also is “amnesty week” at the library. If you have overdue books, CDs, cassettes or other library materials, this is the time to hunt them down and bring them in. Librarians will waive all fines on items returned that week. Also, if you have other outstanding fines on your card, they will reduce the amount you owe by $3 if you pay off the balance.

For more information on these or other events, call the library at 482-4110.
