Hoff, Donald E. “Don”

Age 77, died Sunday, April 21, 1996 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was bom June 26, 1918 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Cornelius Hoff and Augusta Hendrian. He married Kathleen (Kay) Crawford on June 16, 1940 in Holly, MI. Don was a printer and compositor at The Ann Arbor News from 1936-1980. He was a life-time member of the International Typographical Union and since his retirement, a member of the United Methodist Church Men’s Club. He was a longstanding political activist in the areas of civil rights and social justice. He and his wife Kay were devoted ambassadors for goodwill and understanding through their association with the U/M Volunteers for International Hospitality and have established life-long relationships with many students and families from other countries. Survivors include his wife Kay Hoff; daughters, Susan Shannon and Ellen Hoff; sons, Jeffrey and David; grandchildren, Lara Shannon, Jefferson Hoff, Seth and Noah Weiss, Nathan and Natalie Hoff; his brother, Clifford Hoff of Toms River, NJ; his sisters, Geraldine Doyle of Lansing and Virginia Watson of Tustin, CA; extended family, Lynn and Jim Tieman, Theresa and Stephanie Beaulieau, Hema and Apurva Dandekar; many families and friends. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Muehlig Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Huron Valley, 3100 Cherry Hill Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105 or to the Inter-Faith Council for Peace, 730 Tappan Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
