Description

1913 Hill Auditorium Restoration Receives 2005 AIA Award
The comprehensive restoration of Hill Auditorium, located in the heart of The University of MichiganÂ’s main campus, was nationally recognized by the American Institute of Architects with a 2005 Honor Award for Architecture.
The design team for the $38.6 million renovation was led by Albert Kahn Associates, Inc., Architect and Engineer of Record, and Quinn Evans Architects of Ann Arbor, who led the design effort for the auditorium and public spaces as well as the historic preservation and restoration aspects of the project.
Within a 20-month construction schedule, on a constrained site, the project team skillfully created new public spaces and with minimal disruption inserted new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems into the historic fabric of the building. The entire project was executed with a commitment to recapturing the artistry and craftsmanship of earlier generations found within this monumental building.
