Kresge employees, 1937
Year
1937
The staff and management of the Kresge Store in downtown Ann Arbor gathered to receive a 1937 award for the store. My mother, Grace Patrick Leslie, held her first job at the dollar store. She is in the back row, extreme right of the photograph. I can remember her reflections on the job and how she admired the store manager, the man pictured extreme right in the front row. Grace would spend nearly 40 years in retailing as the co-owner, founder of Leslie Office Supply, Inc., located in Ann Arbor which later employed son Dale. Grace and husband Dick Leslie started Leslie Office Supply,Inc. as a typewriter repair shop in 1961 and it grew to gross over $3 million in office supply/furniture sales before being sold in 1997. Dick Leslie is in his 90s and resides at Glacier Hills Retirement Center in Ann Arbor.
