City, Maren 25.- Ex Senator HiU, Oí Colorado, is in the city. In speaking of the silver question Hill said that the interest in free coinage is not coufined to the mining states where there is do compliiint of the scarcity of money. It is more of an issue in the farming and agricultural states, where the farmers, suffering f rom a lack of m ny, want an increase of the circulating medium. They believe that the free coiuage of silver will improve their fiuancial condition." Dependa on the CandiUates. "What effect will this feeling have on the campaign?" "If the Rt-publicans nomínate a man who is not an extreme silver man, and lue Democrits put up Cleveland lt will not; make much difference, as I think then tbat the, next campaign must be fougiit mainly by the old parties. I do not helieve that a third party can make much headway between now and next yëar. If the Democrats, liowever, nomínate a silver man und advocate free eoinage, it will be hard to keep in line states that are now supposerl to be safely Republican." Harrison Growing Strongor. "How abont a silver caudidatu for the I Republicans?" 'There is as yet no feeling in the west that the party will nomínate a man wl o is an out aud out advocate of free silver. We do not look for that. President Harrison is growing stronger iu Colorado and the west every day. The people flnd that he is giving them a safe and clean administration, and that in the appointments wbich he makes he strives to select those men who will be a credit to t.he country. They see, too, that he is not a gold bug. He signed tüe act authorizing the coinage of $4,500,000 ounces of süver a month, which is more than any of his predecessors would do." Silver May Not Be an Issue. "It may be that this coinage of $54,000,OOOayearwill settle the silver problem. Tbe surplus silver that has been troubling the market is being decreased by the demand in Judia and China - a demaud that for ten years has been below the average. This renewed export of silver may bring the metal to par, where we all want to seeit. Whai will" the new congress do? Pass a silver bill that the president will veto. I believe he would sign a bill that limited the coiuage to the American product, and W" cannot blame him if he does not go further than that."
