Tke íire department was called out tvvice duriing Friday night,both times by the explosión of kerosene laraps. The flrst was in the evening, a lamp explodiug in the back parlor of Prof. Thompson's residence on E. University avenue. Help was near at hand and the fire was under c-ontrol before the department arrived, but little damage betog done. The seeoiml alarm was about three o'clock, when a fire was discovered at Salyer's bakery, om Washington st. Prompt action of the ïiremen with the chemical extinguisher prevented what anight have been a serious c.onflagration. lt is supposed that this fire also occurred from the explosión of a lamp whioh the bakers left burning in the front part of the store. Mr. and Mrs. Salyer who sleep over the store were awakened by the smell of smoke and were the iirst to discover fire. The loss was not over $50.
