The Democratie convention to nomínate a senator for the tenth district met at Manchester Friday morning. Capt. C. II. Manly, of Ann Arbor, was called to the chair and made a strong speech, f uil of enthusiastic predictions. Eugene D. Mosher, of Jackson, was selected as secretary. Committees were appointed as follows, after wliich a recess was taken until 1 :30. Oredentials- Michael Brenner, T. U. Crosby, Frank Koebbe. Besolutions- Jno, O'Brien, D. A. Ferguson, Dr. I). 1'. McLachlan. Permanent organization-Js. Kelly, E. II. liowell, i!. F. Wade. Upon rftassemblingthecoiuniittee on credentials reported that Jaekson county was represented by twenty delegates and Washtenaw by eighteeu. The temporary otlicers were made permanent. Dr. E. N. Palmer, of Brooklyn, presented as a candidato M. V. Clark, speaking of him as a farmer, a man of brains and energy. 1). A. Ferguson said his candidato was ïiot a farmer. Ile named Rudolph Worch. He said lie did not present his name as a Germán but as an American. Formal Ballot: Clark 1 Woreh' 5 Blank 11 The appointment of superintendent for Hope mission and other business was adjourned until next Wednesday evening. The nomiuation of Mr. Clark was then made unanimous. The nominee was then called to the front and returned his thanks. He said hé would do his best to see that the Democratie majority in Jackson county was maintained. Ile did not claim to be a speech maker but before the campaign was over lie would show that ho could work. The committee on resolutions reported the t'ollowmg, which were adopted: Resolved, That in the nominees of our national, state, and congressional conventions we liavecandidatesworthy of our hearty, loyal and undivided support, and we assert tliat the democracy of the tenth senatorial district will lie remisa in its duty should it fail to roll up for each of those candidates a round majority of 2.000. We denouDce, and in most emphatie terms, the eft'orts of the Bepublican party, as voted tor by their representalives in coiigress and lavored by Jicnjamin Ilanison in liis letter of acceptance, to subjugate the ballot to armed force, and we claim tliat the honest American voters need no safegnard in the exercise of their franchise except against the dangerous electivo expedient known as the force bill now threatened by the Republican party. The following were appointed senatorial committee for the next two years: Jackson county, Sandford Hunt, D. E. Haskins; "Washtenaw, Nathaniel Schmid, D. P. McLachlan. After hearty cheers for the Democratie nominees, national, state and local, the convention adjourned. -
