A proposed amendment to the city charter is being drafted, under which the taxes in this city are to be paid twice a year, the city taxes being paid in July, and the state, county and school taxes in December. The object is to make it easier for the smaller taxpayers, and especially those of the laboring classes, to pay their taxes. The city taxes will come due at a time of the year when the laborers have work. It is not the design of those framing the amendment that the payment of taxes in July shall be corupulsory, taxes not paid then being carried over into the December tax roll with the addition of a small per cent. From the expressions of taxpayers the new plan will meet with general favor. It is already in operation in most of the cities and villages of the state.
