Experuuents have receiiüy been made to determine the length of time through which a carrier pigeon will preserve the "homing" instinct - that is to say, how long a bird must be kept away from its original or home loft before it avüI lose the instinct to return. Recently seventytwo pigeois in the Germán military service were taken from Mayence to Brunswick, a distancc of 1T0 miles, and kept in captivity a month. Then they were liberated. They Btarted instantly in the direction of Mayence and arrived there in 44 hours.
