Detroit's Birthday

Detroit, July 25.- Monday the two hundredth anniversary of this city's birth was celebrated, and in honor of Antoine de la Motte Cadillac, the French explorer, who first settled here, this day will hereafter be known as Cadillac day. A few weeks ago the Historical Pioneer soci.t of Wayne county decided that this : ar of celebrations was a good one t ■ begin commemorating Detroit's blrtl.day. And it was decided to properly c .serve July 24, the date of Cadülac's arrival here. They were assisted in the work of arransjing for the event by the Lafayette and St. Jean de Baptist societies. The celebration began with a parade, which formed at Grand Circus park at 3 o'clock and marched to the Auditorium, where appropriate exercises were held. Addresses were made by the mayor, ex-Govs. A. S. Felch, Cyrus 3. Luce, Rev. Father Joseph Menard, John Logan Chipman, VVilliam Livingston, Jr. , and others. In the evenïng local French organizations held numerous banquets and other entertainments throughout the city in honor of the day.
