Business Houses Burned
Jackson, Aug. 20.- A barrel of alcohol exploded in the laboratory of the Weeks Drug and Chemical cotnpany at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, setting fire to the building-. Damage, $25,000, insurance, $35,000. The building is located on Main Street, in the business portion, and the fire spread to the blocks on either side. The occupants of the other blocks are the Warner Hardware company, Wygant's crockery store, and Dibblee & White, cigar rnanufacturers. The losses are: Weeks' Drug & Chemical company, $15,000; Warner Hardware company, $8,000; Dibblee & Co., $1,000; Wygant's building, $1,000. Oscar F. Schinidt, the chemist at Weeks', was quite severely, though not dangerously, burned by the explosión. Two other persons were slightly injured.
