Manchester schools enroll 27 foreigti scholars. We have received a small share of the long looked for rain. The smoke from the surrounding burning marshes is very disagreeable. Miss Vesta Mills visited friends in town while on her way home to Saline. The visitors to the World's Fair from this place are daily coming and going. Will Nisle drove to Ann Arbor last Sunday to visit his brother, August. Master Edward Percy, of Adrián, has been visiting friends in town the past week. Miss Rosa Stockinger went to Chicago last Tuesday tu visit the World's Fair. The Misses Edith Case, Henrietta Weir and Jennie Saley left last Tuesday for Ypsilanti to attend the Normal. Some more seats were purchased and placed in the Gramniar room of the Union school, on account of the large attendance. Mr. O. A. Waite went to London, Canada, to visit his daughter, Mrs. J. Jaynes, and expects to be absent a week or ten days. The school board met and organized by electing Dr. C. F. Kapp, director; C. VV. Case, moderator; N. Schmid, assessor. Mrs. J. Koch, of Detroit, carne to Manchester last Saturday to attend the funeral of her uncle, near Norvell, and returned Monday. Mrs. James Kelly went to Brooklyn, last Tuesday, on receipt of the news that another boy had come to brighten the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Cash. The teachers and pupils are endeavoring to get a lecture course for the coming months and have selected a canvassing qommittee to ascertain about the number of tickets that can be sold before making any engagements. The entertainment given by the W. R. C. last Saturday evening was a success. The net receipts were over $22. The flower drill by the sixteen young ladies was very pretty and showed great tact. The singing and speaking was greatly enjoyed. Miss Bertha Kirchhofer has been well rewarded for the great care she has given the last seven years to a night-blooming cereus. On Saturday night three blossoms slowly unfolded, and two more the following night. They were very large and handsome.
