The Epworth League will hold its annual reception this evening. J. B. Johnston, '93 lit, has been appointed assistant in morphology. L. A. Strauss, lit '93, has been appointed assistant in English and Rhetoric. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon house will not be ready for occupancy for about two weeks. No work has been done on the gymnasium during the summer, except laying the floor. Manager Baird has arranged for a game with D. A. C. next Saturday, either here or at Detroit. Edward Walsh, Hawaiian commissioner to the United states, has entered the law department. The Phi Delta Phi law fraternity has a chapter house this year, for first time since it was established here. The last year's graduatingclass of 731 members was the largest class ever graduated from an American University. The first Faculty concert will occur at Newberry Hall, Thursday evening, Oct. 5. Tickets may beobtained at office of School of Music at Newberry Hall. The list of Freshmen who have successfully passed their entrance exams was posted in the main hall Saturday. About seventy failed to reach the required standard. The Hobart Guild this_term ofïeis a course in Delsarte to the ladies and a course in physical training to the gentlemen. Applications should be sent to the curator of Harris Hall. The ladies of the Woman's League and S. C. A. are holding informal receptions to the university girls every afternoon from five to six in the ladies' parlors at Newberry Hall. The Hand Book was issued from the Argus job rooms, which fact alone insures its mechanical excellence.- U. of M. Daily. The job printing for the students being done at the Argus office is acknowledged to be of the highest grade of mechanical excellence. The Choral Union met Wednesday for its first rehearsal. The Messiah will be given again this year, and Requiem, by Verdi. All old members are requested to be present, and all persons wishing to enter are requested to see Prof. Stanley at once at his office in the School of Music, from 9 to 12 daily. Saturday afternoon, about half an hour after practice had been begun, James Van Dusen, center rush on the second eleven, became entangled in a scrimmage and broke his left leg below the knee. He wascarried into the medical building, and the leg was set by Dr. Breakey. Van Dusen is a sophomore in the medical department and was a promising candidate for the team. Arrangements are being made for the opening receptian of the year by the S. C. A., to be held at their commodious quarters in Newberry Hall, Friday night. A general invitation is extended to all students of the University, and it is expected that there will be an attendance of twelve hundred old and new students. A reception committee of seventy will see that all present know each other. A novel method of identification has been adopted. Upon a yellow card tied to the person by means of a blue ribbon, the name of the bearer is written.
