Engine failures on the Union Pacific are 8aid to be lighter than on auy road in the country. The London and Northwestern railroad passes through more than half of the 53 counties of England and Wales. The Great Northern railroad, which has established a line of steamers from Seattle to China and Japan, is now employing a Chinese traveling agent to drum up business for the line, with excellent results. The nnmber oí miles first traveled by a trolley car on the average before an accident is encountered bas been figured as 11,262; on a horse car, 7,870, in both cases 50 per cent being accidents of a trivial nature, and steam railroads, 6,114 miles. It may astonish the geueral public to know that nearly 200,000 men are employed on the lines running out of Chicago and 185,000 on the lines running out of St. Louis, not includiug Itie men employed in a clerical c&pacity pi the attaches of the geiieral traflic departments.
