The board of regents met yesterday. Present, the president, Regents Barbour, Cocker, Kiefer, Fletcher and Cook. Mr. Fletcher, the new member of the board, is a resident of Alpena. He is a member of the class of '75. A resolution was passed by which no member should receive any cornpensation out of the funds of the University for professional or other services. The standing committees appointed for the year are: Executive committee - Pres. Angell, Butterfield, Barbour, Cocker and Fletcher. Finance - Cocker, Butterfield, Fletcher and Barbour. Literary - Cocker, Butterfield, Fletcher and Barbour. Law - Butterfield, Cook, Barbour and Cocker. Medical - Kiefer, Butterfield, Cook andHebard. Library - Cook, Kiefer, Fletcher, Howard and Angelí. Chemical, Museum, etc, - Howard, Kiefer, Barbour and Hebard. Buildings - Barbour, Fletcher,. Howard and Cook. Gymnasium and Athletic Field- Hebard, Fletcher.Kiefer and Cook. The board accepted the trust of the gymnasium equipment fund which amounts to Só,ooo. Regent Cocker introduced a resolution that the gym committee ceive estimates for the completion and equipment of the gymnasium. He faid it was a ihame the bui'ding was unoccupied and that if the board could see their way clear to completing.it, it should be done. The resolution was adopted. Prof. Kelsey in an address to the board said that an opportunity offered to secure the large pipe organ, that was in Festival Hall at the World 's Fair, at a very low figure. He thought that sufficient funds could be raised by subscription to purchase the organ, providing the board would make the necessary changes in University hall to put it in. The organ will be put in as a Frieze memorial. The board agreed to make the changes, providing the cost did not exceed $r,ooo. A communication was read from the junior hop committee, asking that the time for closing the hop, placed at 2 o'clock a. m.,be extended. A motion was passed withdrawing the time restriction made at last meeting. This is for both hops. The Medical committee approved of the request made by the Dental department asking that the degree of Doctor of Dental Science be grarited for a one year post-graduate course in chemistry. Adopted by the board.
