Death Of A Prominent Banker
Cleveland, Jan. 15. - Samuel H. jVlather, eme of the oldest bankers in Cleveland, ilied Sunday after a brief ülness, atred 80 years. ín 1849 Mr. Mafher organizad the Society i'or Savings- Tiie bank was started in a room 20 feet square, which was also oceupied by an insuranee eouipany, and the assets were locked up each night iri a tin box. The society now lias deposits aggregating 23.000,000, with a surplus of SI. 700.000, and undivided profits of Sl,000.000. Mr. Mather was first secretary and treasurer and in 18S3 he was elected president, which office he held at the time of his death.
