Midland, Jan. 17. - A house owned by Mrs. ï. J. Carpenter and occupied by the families of Williani H. Starne and Mrs. Empey, was burned early Tuesday morning. Mr. Starne, his wife and baby and Mrs. Empey and her son barely oscaped with their lives. None of the occupants of the building saved anything except their night robes. Mrs. Carpenter's loss is $800; Mr. Starne"s, S?00, and Mrs. Empey's, 300. Starne carried S500 insurance. The others had none.
