Sorrie confusión having arisen under the new tax law regarding the time for settling taxes between the townships and the county, County Treasurer Sukey has written each of the township treasurers inclosing a communication from the Prosecuting Attorney, and advising that the opinión of the Prosecuting Attorney be followed. The opinión of the Prosecuting Attorney is as follows: Ann Ahbob, Mich., J;in. 23, 189!. P. G. Sukey, County Treasurer: Dear Sir: In response to your request for an opinión regarding the accounting of township treasurers with the county treasurer, I would submit the following. According to act number two hundred and six (206) of the public acts of 1893, the township treasurer "shall account for and pay over to the county treasurer the amounts therein specified for state and county purposes on or before the first day of March next following." This extends the time one month over the act of 1891. When the supervisor's warrant commands the township treasurer to collect his taxes and settle with the county treasurer on or before the first day of February, I would suggest that the township board meet and extend the time to the first day of March, as the taxes for this year must be collected and reported under the new law.
