A patvolman saunteving down Monroe avenue the other day met a stranger wUh a bloody nose and stopped to aak what had happened. "Sir, I allege," replied the man, "that a saloon keeper near the Central depot hit me." "Allege? Don't you know that he did?" asked the officer. "I allege that he did, and I allege itpretty strong, too," replied the man. "Why don't you come right out and say that he hit you?" "I'm a good mind to." The officer looked at him in wonder, and the stranger pinched his nose to stop the flow of blood and said: "You see, I was having a fight with him, a street car was ofï the track and a horse was running away all at the same time, and I don't want to swear that he punched nie in the nose when I might have been run over by the horse or struck by the streefc car.
