Lansing, April 5. - The little village of Shaftsbiirg, 18 miles east of this city on tlie Chicago and Grand Trunk railroad, carne near being wiped out by fire. The blaze originated from a defective line in a store owned and occupied as a drug store by G. A Kay. F. W. Kent's stock of boots and slioes in the same building was also destroyed. j A store owned by J. Ü-. Marsh & Coinpany, occupied by F. L. Dell. and the villáge hotel, Isaac. Rphrbacker, proprietor, were also burned. The total loss is about 515,000; insurance, 53,100.
