The "glonous fourth passed off very satislaetorily in Saline. The small boy exploded about the usual number of fire crackers and the Workingmeu'S society picnic was pretty well attended and added a goódiy number of shekels to the society "s treasury. The base ball gaines appeared to interest the spectators, though it would have been rather more so if the Saline team could have run in a few moie acores, the score standing 32 to 7, in favor of the Lake Kicige boys. Peter Snauble, of the western part üf this township, has just corapleted a new barn, built to replaee the one recently lost by fire. The family of Ira Biddle, south west of town, had a narrow escape during the recent storm. Lightning struck the chimney of the house and go mjverely shocked Mrs. Biddle that she has since been under the doctor's care. The dog, which happened to lie clirectlv under the chimney, was instantly killed. 33 ut one of the three English speaking churches of this place is now sui plied with a regular pastor. Whv not form a "combine" and opérate all under one "management"? In this aire of advancement it seems too bad that there should still be maintained the old-time ideas resrarding the 'isoas" in church circles. With one religión and all united m making that of the greatest good to the greatest numberi how much better it would be. The recent wind and rain storm did considerable damage in this vicinity. especially in a section south-east ót town. where it assumed the propor tions of a yonng cyclone. and partly unroofed a barn for G-eorg Hartman. blew down a shed for II. Vlieeler, laid ■ low several wind-milis, and raised ibüyoc generally with fruit, the trees. felices, etc.
