Teere Haute, Ind., July ia.- Theearly morning Evansville and Terre Haute passenger train struek an open switch at Tenth and ilxin streets and the engine was derailed. Iuvestigation pro ved that a rod had been driven into the frog so that the switch could not be set. The switch had been tampered with during the night. A uuinber of hoodlums began stoning coal iiamllers iu the Chicago and Eas-tern Illinois coal dumps. One man was slighly injured. The pólice do Dot seera to be able to stop the work. Deputy Uuited States Marshal Isaac Keeley and a squad of men brought in a Chicago and Eastern Illinois freieht wtaicli 'iftd been stopped at Clinton. The train was in charge of Sheriff Diüon and about twenty deputies when it reached Clinton. Tbeminersdisarmed theposseand ran the sheriff out of town. Marshal Keeley succeeded in moving the train. Further trouble is expected. Passenger train No. 5, on the Chicago and Easteru Illinois, which arrived here last night, was fired on by a mob shortly after leavina Danville, Hls. The shots were fired at Itiyineer Hallison, two of the balls lodyin in the woodwork of tbe engine cab. There were four shots fired by the mnb and two by tbe enineer, who letahated. p oae was reported iujured.
