Toledo, Oct. 1.- Train No. 42 on tho Wabash railroad was wreekéd at Maumeo, a small town twolve milos soutli of this ; sity. The wreek was planned, by whoever sonceived the plot, fco occur at the west end of a long siding, just beyond the Maumee station. The rail at the Iower part of the switch target had been removed and the switch was partly thrown. The target indicated a clear track,_ and Engineer Smit li was probably not aware of the situation an instant before his motor was bnmping along on the ties. As soon as the train styick the switch it leaped into the air, feil toward the 'litoh and turned oo:npletcty over. At the time of the accident the train was running at the regular speed and it is oonsidered a mfracle that more Iives were not lost. Tho postal cars were torn entirely from thu trut ks, and wero lying side by sido. Besides the slightiy iniured there were in the mail cars, S. J. MoCorkle, of Kokomo, Ind., and E. S. Coffin and J. S. Dalton, both of this city. The express and baggago cars were literally reduced to splinters, yet the occupants escapod unhurt. There were several passenger in the combination smoker, which was wreckod beyond repair, vet not a scratch could be shown by any of them. Pullman Passpnjjers Only Jolted. The passeng-rs in the Pullmans ware only made aware of the accident by the severe jolting which they experienced. Wn-cking trans from Toledo and Fort Wayne, Ind., wereimmediafcely sent tothe scono and the main track was cleared for : rav 1 !y 7 o'clook in tho ovening.
