San Francisco,, Oct. 39.- A novel in. duatry has been started In the San Joaquín vailey by Chicago tanners, who havo süloctcd California for cllmatic and other reasons for their extensiva operations. The tanners are to cultívate the uanigre weod, the root3 of which are full of tannic acid. Land In the San Joaquin valley to the araount of 5,000 acres has been purchasod and sixty Chicago families have been notiflod to leavo for the valley at once. It is expected that at least 300 families wil! be placed on the 5,000 acres as soon as operattons are fully under way.
